Program Information
Osgoode Hall Law School and Schulich School of Business at York University created Canada’s first LLB/MBA in 1972. In 2009, the program implemented two changes. First, Osgoode has moved to the Juris Doctor (JD) program; thus, the joint degree is now a combined JD and Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. Second, although typically undertaken as a four year curriculum, a three year study option was added. This alternative allows students to begin the MBA program in the summer term and condense Years 1 and 2 into sixteen months of continuous study.
Graduates from these highly challenging programs follow career paths in which business and law overlap. Students typically specialize in a business/law combination such as: corporate/commercial law or administration; business management; corporate tax; economic regulation; finance; international business; labour law/labour relations; public administration; environmental law and real property development.
Joint program students have access to all of the resources of both schools, including financial aid, career services and a wide array of student organizations. In addition, the JD/MBA Students’ Association plans several activities each year for its members, including: law firm and corporate tours; an annual law & business conference with leading practitioners; a mentorship program; and many additional social and networking activities.
